For the re-opening of the SKATEBOARDFEVER - MUSEUM after the sum-
mer break, FauxAmi brings you the exhibition “Art of Asfalt”, showing
the art of Aorta - Leon Zoudar - Jaka Babnik and Sergej Vutuc. Art of
Asfalt is a project by a group of artists from the Balkan, who share the
street as their common place of expression. They all come from the
skateboarding and street culture.
The exhibition runs until the 18.11.07

Birds are Terrifying Creatures marks Nicholas Di Genova’s triumphant return to Toronto, following up on a successful solo exhibition in NYC and an acquisition by the Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibition at LE will feature a number of his signature paintings of creatures on mylar, and a series of intricately drawn works on paper. Uniting illustrative drawing, delicate colour work, and an immaculately detailed narrative structure, Di Genova has caught the attention of major collectors and institutions, and established himself as one of Toronto’s leading emerging artists.

Galleri Magnus Karlsson is pleased to present Amy Bennetts first solo
exhibition at the gallery. Amy Bennett was born in 1977 in Portland,
Maine. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Two years ago Amy Bennett constructed a 1:87 scale model of an
American neighborhood. From railroading miniatures, styrofoam,
cardboard, plastic,paint, telephone wires and working lights a block
with eleven houses were was depicted. By working with the model,
which took several months, she started to think about the people
who might live there and what they might be doing in their lives.
Amy then created different characters, and the model became a stage
on which to develop the psychological implications of belonging to a
particular family, with all of its dramas, struggles and familiar routines.
After constructing the model she arranged a number of scenes to
serve as still lifes for painting. The realistic images are constructions
of significant moments and distillations of experience and recall film
stills or fragments of memory.

GAS launched in November of 06′ the first of a series of exhibitions
curated by Sense Assault Studio, showcasing a diverse array of
artists who were all killing it in their chosen field.

Last year we saw the exhibition feature celebrated industry
creatives alongside exceptionally talented newcomers in a mash-up
of mediums and approaches. Showcasing graphic design, illustration,
photography, sculpture, film, street art and graffiti by some of the
most exciting, unique, talented and influential artists from around
the globe.

With no formal structure, the GAS exhibition promotes a sense
of community within the contemporary art scene. A lack of a
tangible theme or genre focus was inspiration behind the name GAS.

Jonathan Yeo. The man who created the George W. Bush portrait
using pornografic snippets. Nice! Take a close look on his page to
see more of his realistic paintings in perfection!

Hans op de Beeck. A real allround artist with wonderful projects from
1996 until 2007 on his website. Really impressive is the last work he
did called “the Building”. Take a look at this modern Master.

Along West Broadway

Deitch Projects, Creative Time and Paper Magazine are pleased to announce the third annual Art Parade. The parade will take place on Saturday September 8, at 4PM. The route will begin on Houston and follow West Broadway, ending on Grand Street. Following the success of the past two Art Parades, artists, performers and designers are again being invited to create floats, placards, portable sculptures, kites, performances and street spectacles.

For the second year Italian artist Francesco Spampinato takes part in
the Art Parade in New York, a happening at its third edition organized
by Deitch Projects in collaboration with Creative Time and Paper
Magazine. The parade will take place Saturday September 8 at 4PM on
West Broadway in Soho featuring some of the most important
contemporary artists from New York. Spampinato, who participated in
2006 with a fake Italian soccer team, this year presents the new
performance The Warriors Revealed, inspired by American cult movie
from 1979 The Warriors.
